Dialogue
A dialogue between Princess Elizabeth Tudor and her sister, the current queen of England, Mary Tudor
Elizabeth:(Writing a letter) Dear Mary,
I am requesting a meeting at your earliest convenience with the queen of england on September 16, 1556 to discuss the future of this country.
(At Hatfield house)
Mary:Elizabeth what have you called me here for? I am a very busy woman so do not waste my time.
Elizabeth: Mary I am deeply concerned about the safety of this country. Your husband is using our money to patch up his own financial misfortune, you kill anyone who doesn’t agree with the current religion, and this country could be attacked at any time and you turn a blind eye to our lack of resources.
Mary: How dare you! Must I remind you who is queen? I am the one who is in command and I therefore, have the right to do whatever I may. If the people will not surrender to the catholic religion then they must be punished for it!
Elizabeth: But Mary, do be reasonable. The country is in shambles and you will surely be overthrown. Beheading people is not making you a very popular queen. Simply by marrying a spaniard you have put this country in great risk. This is not a suitable way to run a country.
Mary: You are a mistake! You are not supposed to exist! I should have you killed, you are a threat to this country and my rein! Father was not supposed to “remarry”, your very existence is against the law! I will not listen to you speak lies in order to ruin my rule!
(Mary exits the room in fury)
Elizabeth: (Under breath) I was only trying to warn you.
